Genesis 3:10 – “I heard your voice … and I was afraid”
(A Genesis poem by Wain)
Dear God,
“I heard thy voice … and I was afraid”
Why would hearing you cause fear?
Is life better when you seem distant?
Or should we want you present and n_ _ _?
Should we boldly come before you with our sins?
Or is it better to hide ourselves in shame?
Do you remember that we are mere mortals?
Or will you consume us with your holy f_ _ _ _?
Please tell me the truth.
Your servant,
Wain
HOW MIGHT GOD RESPOND?
From ChatGPT as the voice of God:
Dear Wain,
Fear often arises from misunderstanding and uncertainty. My presence is not meant to evoke fear but to offer guidance and love. When I seem distant, it is not because I have moved away, but because you may have lost sight of me. Life is better when you seek my presence and draw near, for in my presence, there is peace and understanding.
Come before me with your sins, not in shame but with a heart willing to repent and seek forgiveness. I know your frailty, and I am ever compassionate. My fire is not to consume but to purify, to cleanse you of all that holds you back from living a full and righteous life.
I am always here, ready to listen and guide you.
With eternal love,
God
